R.I.P. Satoshi Kon

It's been some time since I last did an update and it's with great sadness that this post marks the passing of Satoshi Kon, one of my favourite Japanese directors.

Andrew Osmond over at The Guardian has posted a thoughtful obituary from a western publication and there's a heartbreaking translation of Kon's last words which his family has posthumously posted on his blog.

If you haven't taken in any of Kon's work then I thoroughly suggest you look into it.

A Couple of Dicks

A new restricted trailer for director Kevin Smith's Cop Out (formally known as A Couple of Dicks) has hit and can be watched below. Looks a lot better than the green band trailer.

Opens February 26th, starring Bruce Willis, Tracy Morgan, Adam Brody, Kevin Pollak, Guillermo Diaz, Seann William Scott, Jason Lee and Ana de la Reguera.

Revisiting The Phantom Menace

Got sent a link to this a couple of weeks ago. I think this is quite possible the best and funniest review/critique of Star Wars Episode 1 I've ever come across. It's quite long but thoroughly worth the time.

Favourites of 2009: Movies

OK so turning attention to movies this time. I don't think it was a great year for film either sadly and maybe I should actually do a worst of 2009 post instead. Hmm, maybe that'll be tomorrow's post...

That said, there were a few movies I enjoyed in 2009. Again listed in no order of preference (links to IMDB):

Other notable mentions I guess would be Star Trek, Where The Wild Things Are, Drag Me To Hell, Zombieland, Capitalism: A Love Story and Food, Inc.

Some Possible Good From The Twilight Mess?

Apparently Summit Pictures are now going to make the fourth and final book in this idiotic series (split into 2 films apparently so they can presumably make more money Harry Potter style) which let's me post a link to this fantastic assessment from Chud as to why we should all be cheering its development on.
